After Massage Information

The only real "care" you need to give your dog is availability of plenty of water as this will help flush out the impurities and make the dog feel much better.  Due to the cleansing, deep tissue stimulation and system balancing properties of massage therapy, the affects after a massage (which are temporary) may include:

  • Next day stiffness and soreness.  Lactic acid, the chemical end product of muscle work released into the musculature has been stimulated.  As muscle spasms are worked out of the muscles to re-establish balance and normal muscle tone, it can cause very temporary soreness in some dogs that have had previous injuries or have chronic pain issues. This possible soreness, (much like humans can experience after massage), is short-lived and your dog should feel renewed and improved after massage.

  • Thirst.  Your dog's digestive tract and metabolism have been stimulated. Lactic acid hormone has been released into the blood stream and therefore your dog may be unusually thirsty.  Keep fresh water available for his/her hydration.

  • Drowsiness and lethargy.  Release of melatonin and other hormones into the bloodstream may cause possible drowsiness and relaxation.

  • Urination.  Your dog may require additional bladder emptying sessions due to purging of toxins and increased water intake.

  • Nasal discharge. The sinuses and lungs have been stimulated opening bronchial passages in the body that were not performing optimally.  The release of mucus toxins retained in the lymphatic tissues may cause your dog to exhibit these symptoms for 24 to 48 hours after the massage.

**Any of the above possible affects after massage will be very temporary and simply means your dog is on the road to total body wellness!**
